Gallops

Since its installation in 2005 Deravarra Gallops has proved a most welcome and valuable addition to the arsenal of the horse trainers of the Midlands and beyond. It has assisted many to success ; be it group and listed winners on the flat , countless bumper, hurdle and chase winners on the track, point-to-pointers and pony racers around the country. The stiff steady climb combined with a safe and secure surface has proven invaluable to instil the speed and stamina required for success.

The gallop is also very popular with those preparing for the breeze up sales-,the gradual climb to the 3 furlong marker gives the young stock the confidence to stretch and show their worth while the waxed surface reduces the pressure on those immature shins.

The hill gallop is 6 furlongs long with a strong climb from the 2.5 to the 5 furlong where it levels out. In 2010 we added a one and a half furlong circle at the bottom and it has been very popular with those wanting to do a longer pieces of work.

The gallop uses a top class waxed sand and fibre footing ; Cushion Track Premier from Equestrian Surfaces.

Schooling over easifix hurdles – two flights of hurdles are on the gallop most Friday mornings and at any other time by request -it only takes 5 minutes to set them up. The jumping surface is the same as the all weather schooling grounds at the Curragh. Horses jump really well on the secure footing and there is plenty of room to gradually pull up or if you wish to work on up the gallop.

We also place the Easifix fences on the gallop when the grass becomes firm in the late spring and summer, so feel free to contact us if you need to avail of this service.

Schooling over the fences on the grass is available when ground permits (€30/horse)

We are pleased to say that all use of the gallop and schooling hurdles will remain at the same rate of ONLY €20 per horse for 2013.
